Top Players From The ’06 GTHL Top Prospects Game
It was postponed for a while, but when it finally happened, it was a special night in Toronto.
The 12th annual GTHL Top Prospects Game game took place Tuesday evening, as the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) showcased 40 of its top Under-16 AAA players heading into junior draft season for the 2006 birth-year class.

A big thank-you goes out to our #GTHLTopProspects celebrity coaches Ted Nolan, Darcy Tucker, Angela James, Wendel Clark, Anthony Stewart, and Wayne Primeau.@UnderArmour | #IPlayInTheG pic.twitter.com/Ey1eZUpwT1
Team Clark-James-Primeau (black) prevailed 4-2 over Team Nolan-Stewart-Tucker (white) in the star-studded affair, which featured a slew of elite prospects who hold the attention of OHL and NCAA scouts and coaches alike.
Wendel Clark, Angela James and Wayne Primeau were behind the bench for the victorious squad; Ted Nolan, Anthony Stewart and Darcy Tucker were on the opposite side.
Team C-J-P (we’re abbreviating these moving forward) featured players from five different GTHL clubs — the Mississauga Senators had nine representatives, while the Toronto Marlboros had seven. The Vaughan Kings, Toronto Young Nationals and Don Mills Flyers were all represented on the C-J-P roster, as well.
Meanwhile, Team N-S-T featured six GTHL programs, highlighted by the Toronto Jr. Canadiens’ seven. The North York Rangers and Markham Rangers each had five, while the Toronto Red Wings, Kings and Marlboros all had players on the Team N-S-T roster, as well.
Two players were added to the event after the initial roster release — Jay Feldberg of the Toronto Marlboros and Tyron Fevry of the Toronto Red Wings were added to Team N-S-T.
Team C-J-P MVP honors went to Mississauga Senators standout Gabriel Frasca, who scored a second-period goal for the winning team. It was a monumental day for the Frasca family, who just a few hours earlier celebrated Gabriel’s older brother, Jordan, signing an NHL entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Congratulations to Jacob Battaglia (@JrCanadiensAAA) and Gabriel Frasca (@GTHL_Senators) for earning #GTHLTopProspects Player of the Game honours.@UnderArmour | #IPlayInTheG pic.twitter.com/Ypt6nI5zKK

Jacob Battaglia of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens was named MVP for Team N-S-T after registering a goal and an assist in the contest.
It was a sold-out contest at Scotiabank Pond, and the players surely loved the environment. Goaltenders Ryerson Leenders of the Toronto Young Nationals (Team N-S-T) and Andrew Gaulton of the Markham Majors (Team C-J-P) stole the show early, as both posted shutouts through the first 20 minutes of play.
The stat sheet started to fill up in the second period, as Mississauga’s William Moore opened the scoring for Team C-J-P, and his Senators teammate Frasca followed suit soon after. Team N-S-T managed to tie things up by the second intermission, however, thanks to goals from Battaglia and Kawshawn Aitcheson of the North York Rangers.
The Marlboros’ Sam Dickinson and the Senators’ Riley Patterson teamed up for the game-winning goal for Team C-J-P; Marlboros teammates Beckett Sennecke and Leo Serlin wrapped things up with a joint-effort empty-netter.
