Five teams in the Top 25, as hockey in Eastern Europe picks up
Our second edition of the World Hockey Hub rankings were released on Monday, and with that there were five teams from Russia among the top teams in 2005-birth year. Like the U.S., and most of the world though, there are pockets of Russia where youth hockey is being played and other regions where it remains on hold.
Detroit-based HoneyBaked retained its spot at the top, now with a 19-8-1 record heading into the New Year. Teams like No. 5 Vityaz and No. 22 Traktor are in full swing, while No. 12 Yugra and No. 17 Lokomotiv are still in the early stages of their respective seasons. No. 9 Dynamo Moscow has yet to log any game action, as the Moscow Region is on pause until at least January 15th.
The stage is set for plenty of movement in the next few weeks, as Canada is slated to lift its hold on youth hockey, and Sweden is expected to return to action as well. With more and more countries allowing competition, you can monitor all the movement in the rankings HERE.
