The ‘20 in 20’ series takes a deep dive into each of the 20 teams competing at the historic World Selects Trophy in Nashville, Tennessee on June 28th. This 15U tournament is set to feature the best players in the age group from around the world with players from the U.S., Canada and Europe. Today, we take a closer look at Bloodline Hockey.
Headed by coach Vince Malts, Bloodline Hockey’s mission is to enable good hockey players to become great players by unleashing their true potential through mental conditioning training. Malts has coached at the professional and amateur levels for more than 20 years. He’s also fielded spring teams for the World Selects series for more than a decade. The 2021 team is packed with players from New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, as well as four players from California.
It is a dynamic group with several players fresh off of Top-10 seasons. Forwards Matthew Frost (Team Maryland) and Walker Bright (Mid-Fairfield Jr. Rangers) should carry the load offensively. Frost is a tall, athletic player with a versatile skill set and Bright is a quick-footed skater with a special set of hands. Tory Pitner from the LA Jr. Kings and Zachary Skowronek from Team Maryland are big, tough defensemen on the back end; expect them to clog up lanes and give opponents fits as well.
With 18 players from 14 different winter programs and seven different U.S. states overall, Bloodline may have one of the most diverse rosters among the field of teams in the tournament. Nashville will be Bloodline’s third consecutive appearance in the event, as the program looks to advance to the elimination rounds for the first time.

In its first World Selects event in 2018, Upstate fell short of the elimination round by just two points in the standings. One year later, the Kings qualified for the playoffs, but were ultimately eliminated in the first round. Focusing on the 2021 event, the squad will look to advance farther than any previous Kings team has reached in the tournament.

In late January, the Black Bear Sports Group — based out of Pennsylvania — announced the creation of its newest division; an invite-only tournament team. Focused on ice arena and facility management, Black Bear will compete in its first event at the 2021 World Selects Trophy.
The 2006 team will be led by Chris Kanaly, Rob Broderick, Chad Dlugolecki and Pat Ferrill.
“Through the tireless efforts of our amazing coaches, I am thrilled that we can offer this program to our players,” said Murry Gunty, Founder and CEO of Black Bear Sports Group. “It’s an honor for us to have the opportunity to send our young athletes to this event where they can compete against the best 2006-born hockey players in the world.”

This 15U tournament is set to feature the best players in the age group from around the world with players from the U.S., Canada and Europe. Today, we take a closer look at Elite Hockey Group.
A spring/summer training group and tournament team, Elite Hockey Group (EHG) has produced NHL players such as John Carlson, Charlie McAvoy, Kevin Labanc, Zach Aston-Reese and Adam Erne. Established in 2006, EHG has helped place many of the top players from the Northeastern U.S. onto top teams and leagues like the National Team Development Program (NTDP), USHL, CHL, NCAA and NHL.
It is an invite-only program where participants compete in top tournaments throughout the spring and summer months. Bob Thornton is a part of the Orr4Hockey Agency, and is the director of the 15O, 16U and 18U Westchester Express in addition to his role with EHG.
The World Selects tournament team holds true to the region, consisting of players from Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. Much of the team played together during the USA Hockey winter season, and a trio of forwards from the Westchester Express are expected to make a significant impact this summer for EHG.
Joseph Delaurentis, Luke Sansobrino and Ryan Conroy combined to score nearly 200 points for Westchester. Delaurentis up the middle is a potential pro prospect with excellent edge work and a well-rounded 200-foot game. Sansobrino has a stellar scorer’s touch and is coming off of a 50-goal season for the Express. Conroy provides the motor for the top line as a heavy forechecker and a pest below the hash marks.

This 15U tournament is set to feature the best players in the age group from around the world with players from the U.S., Canada and Europe. Today, we take a closer look at Southeast Elite Hockey (SEH).
Based out of Florida, Southeast Elite’s mission is to give an opportunity for players who have a similar passion and work ethic to train and compete together. The program provides a chance for all players, from beginners to professionals, to thrive in the sport of hockey. Recent youth prospects like Gavin Brindley (2004), Seamus Casey (2004) and Michael Chambre (2005) have been amongst some of Southeast’s first wave of talent to make the jump to the USHL and U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP).
SEH has 2021 programming at 10 different age groups from 2003s to 2012s, and the ‘06 group is loaded with talent from the Sunshine State.
Florida Alliance goaltender B.J. Riccardi is an efficient, calm and technically sound presence in between the pipes. His mental strength allows him to maintain a high level of play in all situations. Alliance teammate Daniel Berehowsky is the son of nine-season NHL veteran Drake Berehowsky, and the youngster has a fantastic game of his own. Daniel is a hard-working and physical forward with a knack for finding the back of the net. Tyler Kedzo and Michael Barron add even more weapons up front for Southeast Elite. Kedzo played the 2020-21 season with the No. 19-ranked Los Angeles Jr. Kings. He’s a skilled center with quick hands and great vision while Barron brings a ton of energy and high hockey IQ from his experience with Victory Honda.

This 15U tournament is set to feature the best players in the age group from around the world with players from the U.S., Canada and Europe. Today, we take a closer look at North Shore Hockey Development Academy (NSHDA).
The purpose behind the NSHDA is to provide a training ground for elite hockey players to master their craft. The academy is intended for athletes who aspire to play at an elite level and are committed to the game of hockey. Between diverse camps and individual skill seasons, the NSHDA also provides the opportunity to play in high-level tournaments — such as the World Selects — throughout the spring and summer.
The NSHDA prides itself on working with homegrown talent, and thus, much of its 2006 roster for this tournament is based around the Chicagoland area. Nathan Schaefer is a big power forward who can score from anywhere on the ice and has an edge to his game. Chicago Fury forward Chris Vari competes hard at both ends of the ice and seems to find a way on the scoresheet often. Owen O’Rear is a speedy center from the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals who has an explosive first stride and sees the ice better than most at his position.
Defensively, the team will lean heavily on smooth skater Marty McCauley who can control the game from the back end. Aiden Jenks is a physical presence who can bear down and make it tough on opponents below the hash marks. While they all are capable of getting involved in the offense, Evan Simos is exceptional, jumping into the play and pushing the pace with some of the best in the age group.
Seven-season NHL pro and Illinois native Brett Lebda will be behind the bench for NSHDA. He is one of the four coaches that provide programming at North Shore.

A small, elite-level program with players from the United States and Canada, Exposure Hockey has a rich history of working with some of the top players in North America. Just this spring, 17 former participants from the Exposure Hockey All-Star Weekend were invited to skate at the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP) 2005-birth year evaluations in Plymouth, Michigan.
The coaching staff has more than 3,000 NHL games under its collective belt, with Ian Moran coaching the 2007 group and Tom Poti coaching the 2008s, 2009s and 2010s. Hockey Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla will be behind the bench for the 2006 squad in Nashville, heading up a very talented bunch.
The 17-player roster consists of players from the Boston Jr. Eagles, Wisconsin Jr. Gamblers and New Jersey Colonials.
Forwards Jack Sadowski, Jordan Gieke and Gavin Cornforth should factor heavily into Exposure’s offensive attack. Cade Cozak is an exceptional talent from the backend as well, and can make plays in all three zones.
